Depok, Indonesia – June 11, 2025 – A new initiative aimed at fostering productive waqf (Islamic endowments) agriculture has been officially launched in Depok, Indonesia. The SEBI Sukses Farm program, inaugurated on Wednesday, June 11th, at the SEBI Greenhouse, is a collaborative effort between SEBI Social Fund, Zakat Sukses, and Wakaf Sukses. The program also actively involves student organizations, including the Natural Forum (NaFo) and the SEBI Student Executive Board (BEM SEBI).
SEBI Sukses Farm will serve as a student community dedicated to environmental stewardship and the development of a "Green Campus." Its activities will encompass the management of a melon greenhouse, integrated farming practices, and the cultivation of ornamental plants.
The launch event saw representatives from SEBI Social Fund, Zakat Sukses, Wakaf Sukses, BEM SEBI, and NaFo in attendance. The program was symbolically inaugurated with the direct planting of premium melon seedlings by the institutional representatives. This act underscored the program's commitment to economic sustainability and food independence, all powered by waqf principles.
The symbolic planting of melon seeds in the greenhouse carries a significant message: agriculture is not merely about food production, but also an integral part of a benevolent ecosystem that can be managed through Islamic social funds like waqf.
Crucially, the program actively engages students in both agricultural education and practical fieldwork. The aspiration is for SEBI Sukses Farm to evolve into a socio-economic laboratory, cultivating a spirit of self-reliance and social responsibility among its participants.
It is hoped that this program will yield not only literal fruits but also widespread benefits, inspiring similar productive waqf movements across other educational institutions and community organizations.
