SEBI Institute, in collaboration with the Zakat Sukses Foundation (ZS) and Wakaf Sukses (WS), held the first harvest of Premium Melons of the Inthanon variety at SEBI Sukses Farm in Depok on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
SEBI's Deputy Rector II, Sri Mulyati, expressed gratitude that the first harvest could be achieved just three months after sowing, thanks to the staff's experience in melon cultivation learned previously in Ponorogo, East Java.
“Alhamdulillah, the lessons learned can be directly applied; we sowed in June and are now harvesting in August,” she stated.
Chairman of the Zakat Sukses Foundation, Abdul Aziz Muhtadi, and Director Sunarto Zulkifli emphasized that this program not only produces quality food but also supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Zero Hunger, Responsible Consumption, and Climate Action. They noted that melon cultivation is a tangible manifestation of collaboration that contributes to environmental sustainability.
During the harvest event, heavy rain fell in Bojongsari, adding to the solemnity as SEBI’s Deputy Rector IV, Endang Ahmad Yani, led a prayer session. He referred to the rain as a sign of blessing from Allah SWT and prayed that this endeavor would bring widespread benefits to the community.
The harvest celebration was further enlivened by representatives from the SEBI Social Fund, Zakat Sukses, and Wakaf Sukses, who participated in picking melons directly from the farm. Faculty members and staff of SEBI also joined in and were able to take home premium melons for free.
The Inthanon melons are sold at Rp40,000 per kilogram, with options for picking directly from the farm or delivery orders.
SEBI Sukses Farm is expected to serve as a concrete example of zakat- and wakaf-based agriculture that can strengthen food security, enhance welfare, and protect the environment.
